Norstead
Located some two kilometres from the National Historic Site at norstead L’Anse aux Meadows - North America’s only proven Viking site - Norstead was nine months in the making.

It was created to mark the 1000th anniversary of Leif Ericson’s epic journey across the North Atlantic, representing the first European presence in the New World.

The site consists primarily of four sod covered buildings, including a boat shed, chieftain’s hall, church and workshop. It is also home to 40 historical re-enactors norstead who are trained to give visitors a taste of what life would have been like for the Vikings had they established a trading post at L’Anse aux Meadows.

The site sits on a spit of land that juts into the frigid North Atlantic adjacent to the small community of L’Anse aux Meadows. It was built with $2.8 million in federal and provincial government grants as an anchor attraction for Vikings! 1000 Years celebrations.
